BSkyB Underlines Its Safety Commitment To Staff

Connexion2 bskyb identiconBosses at BSkyB have chosen to protect their front-line staff by equipping them with a state-of-the-art lone worker device.

The digital television company- which is the largest in the UK- has bought 48 market-leading lone worker devices from lone worker safety company Connexion2 in its ongoing bid to ensure the safety of its employees.

The ‘Identicom’ device is styled as an I.D badge which enables a worker to raise an alarm if experiencing verbal abuse, physical attack or if fallen ill.

The updated 8 series can capture verbal abuse through a two-way audio, has GPS tracking to locate a lone worker and has automatic detection if a worker trips or falls.

The broadcasting company had previously been using the 7 series range of ‘Identicom’ but upgraded due to the extra functionality and added benefits offered from the 8 series.

Robert Gathergood, Head of Access Implementation at BSkyB said: “BSkyB takes the health and safety of its employees very seriously.

Benefits of the 8 Series Identicom to BskyB:

• Capture verbal abuse
• Allows discreet activation
• Discreet 24/7 monitoring
• Automatic ‘Man Down’ alarms (where required)
• Supplied as part of a BS8484 approved solution
• Latest GPS technology (where required) for greater speed and reliability

“After being provided with excellent customer service through the SoloProtect solution over the last three years, we have now taken the decision to update our devices.

“‘Identicom has helped our staff feel safer – it gives them confidence to know that they could quickly raise an alarm if their safety was ever compromised.

“We also like the added functionality of the new device, which can detect if a staff member trips or falls, and our team find it discreet and easy to use.”

BSkyB has purchased the devices through the ‘SoloProtect.’ solution. The fully-inclusive service includes SIM card and network usage*, 24/7 Alarm Receiving Centre monitoring and an in-house, UK based, customer support team.

‘Identicom’ remains the most widely used lone worker device in the UK and won “Most Innovative Product of the Year” at the CIR Business Continuity Awards earlier this year.

BSkyB originally started using the device in 2010 after engineers voted overwhelmingly in favour of the ‘Identicom’ product over other lone worker devices trialled.

Connexion2 is fully approved against BS8484, which enables genuine ‘Red Alert’ situations to be escalated to the Police one level above a 999 call where appropriate.
