Draeger Safety is proud to have passed a formal evaluation of its Polytron 7000 Oxygen and Toxic Gas Detector by the British Nuclear Industry Smart Instruments Working Group. The evaluation included quality control and assurance, proven in-use data of the instrument and production methods for both the hardware and software elements of the transmitter.
The Draeger Polytron 7000, with self-diagnostic functions that ensure that no failures go unreported or are missed, has been classified as suitable for use as a SIL 1 (Safety Integrity Level) instrument under IEC61508, Electric Electrical and Programmable Electronic Equipment used in Safety Systems. The Dutch bank Rabobank Nijkerk in Amersfoort has recently solved a major safety problem with slip resistant Grip Rock matting. The bank had a serious issue with customers slipping on the ceramic tiled ramp which leads up to the entrance. The problem was particularly acute with rain and snow.
To solve the problem, Dutch Plastex distributor, Madico recommended and installed Grip Rock, the high performance all-weather solution which is both quick and easy to install. This is one of a range of mattings supplied by Plastic Extruders. Continue reading...

As part of its ongoing commitment to improving fire fighter safety and operational performance, Draeger Safety has developed the UCF range of Thermal Imaging Cameras. For the first time, firefighters no longer have to conduct a risk assessment before taking a thermal imaging camera into a potentially explosive environment because the range includes models which are intrinsically safe and have ATEX Approval applied for. Ensuring that entry protocols can be followed with single-handed operation, the cameras also provide “the complete picture” by combining traditional firefighting and normal view modes. Working in confined spaces is difficult at the best of times. Operators often have to wear full PPE (personal protective equipment), are usually harnessed and may be carrying tools and equipment to complete the task in hand (e.g. welding). The last thing a worker in this environment needs to worry about is his or her gas detector. It should be designed specifically for confined space entry (CSE) applications, be unobtrusive and have a clear display that is easy to see at a glance.
According to the UK’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) a confined space means ‘any place, including any chamber, tank, vat, silo, pit, trench, pipe, sewer, flue, well or other similar space in which, by virtue of its enclosed nature, there arises a reasonably foreseeable risk’. Continue reading...

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), thousands of British workers contract occupational asthma and other lung diseases each year. Some die or are permanently disabled because they breathe in too much dust, fume or other airborne contaminants at work, often because control measures do not work well enough, or are nonexistent. Continue reading...
